ABOUT BIG CITY

Big City (aka jemini smith) is truly the definition of a renaissance artist. He started his career as a critically acclaimed recording artist on polygram records and has gone on to receive critical acclaim as an international recording artist as well.

As Jemini, Big City has been featured in a multitude of national publications such as XXL, The Source, The New Yorker, King, and Spin Magazine just to name a few (internationally he’s been covered even more). Throughout his career, Big City has consistently expanded his creative and artistic range to include documentary film producer (memoirs of an m.c), screen writer, song writer, t.v show writer, jingle writer, event producer (suare nation), CEO of STONE CITY DIGITAL LLC, and even a T-shirt and apparel company (the GR8 art t-shirt co.).

As an event producer, Big City was one of the organizers of the LIBERATION OF ART OF EMORY DOUGLAS event held in the D.U.M.B.O section of Brooklyn, which was a multi cultural event put together to celebrate and reintroduce the public to the art of legendary EMORY DOUGLAS. (Emory Douglas’ work chronicled the struggle for black liberation as well as that of the black panther party). Big City’s event production company has gone on to do events such as the Suare nation rare grooves vinyl party in L.E S Manhattan and the Suare Nation comedy Jam (see on YouTube).

On the cinema side of things, Big City partnered up with Togolu studios to co-produce and feature in their independent documentary film MEMOIRS OF AN M.C. He also wrote and produced the sound track to the film (a film about the human side of hip-hop).

As a recording artist (under his former moniker Jemini), Big City has performed all over the U.S. He performed in Toronto Canada with rapper Pharoah Monch and R&B recording artist Glen Lewis promoting the Canadian release rudamental 2k, which went on to win a Juno award. He later went on to record the critically acclaimed UK release Ghetto Pop Life, which helped to launch the career of his then group mate producer Dangermouse. Through this collaboration, Big City (as Jemini) was reintroduced to the European market and toured extensively throughout Europe in countries such as Germany, Scotland, Ireland , Wales, France, and England (multiple tour dates in London and the Redding and Leads festivals).
